CBD oil is becoming increasingly popular for a variety of reasons, including pain relief, nausea suppression, anxiety relief, and a good night's sleep. It's understandable that a pregnant woman would consider taking it to alleviate the side effects of pregnancy. But is it safe to use during pregnancy. Well this is what we are gonna help you answer today.
CBD, which stands for cannabidiol, is found in marijuana and hemp plants. Because it lacks THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), it does not produce the intoxicating "high" associated with recreational marijuana. CBD oil is extracted and refined with ethanol to resemble actual oil. It's available in pills, gels, gummies, vape oils, creams, and oral tinctures, among other forms.
There has been no comprehensive study of CBD's effects on the developing foetus, pregnant mother, or breastfed baby. The FDA is still collecting and studying data on the potentially harmful effects of CBD during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, based on what we do know, the FDA believes there is cause for concern.
High CBD doses in pregnant test animals have harmed the reproductive system of developing male foetuses. Furthermore, based on what they already know about CBD, the FDA anticipates that some CBD will be transferred to babies via breast milk.
The FDA also warns that CBD products may be contaminated with substances that are harmful to a foetus or breastfed baby, such as THC. They've also heard reports of CBD potentially containing other contaminants (such as pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, and fungus), which they're looking into.
Furthermore, there are known risks associated with CBD for people in general.
According to human clinical studies, the following risks may exist:
• liver toxicity (damage)
• extreme sleepiness
• dangerous drug interactions
The FDA is investigating the effects of CBD use from various perspectives, including:
(1) the use of CBD-containing products, such as food, cosmetics, or supplements, over a person's entire life; and
(2) the effects of combining these various products. There are numerous unanswered questions regarding the science, safety, and quality of CBD-containing products.
The FDA intends to learn more about the effects of CBD during pregnancy and breastfeeding, such as whether and to what extent CBD in human milk harms the breastfed baby or the mother's milk production.
