Why proper  Diet Is Important During Pregnancy ?

The food you eat during pregnancy is a great way to improve your overall health and provides the nutrients your baby requires to grow and develop.

As a general rule pregnant mothers should follow a nutritious diet that is rich in nutrients, and low in salt, sugar as well as saturated fats.


It's normal for pregnant woman to increase her weight. However, losing too much or small a weight can increase the likelihood of developing complications for both the baby and you.

Healthy weight growth is contingent on the mother's weight prior to her the pregnancy. The evidence supports the use of Body Mass Index (BMI) as an indicator of the amount of weight gain suggested during pregnancy.

A balanced diet will usually suffice to satisfy your nutritional requirements during pregnancy. Certain foods have more of specific nutrients that are recommended specifically for pregnant women.


Folate iron, Iodine, iron, along with vitamin D, are the nutrients required to help support a growing baby's development and health. They also may help to prevent certain ailments. If you're planning the birth of a baby, it is recommended to begin taking a folic supplement at least one month prior to the time you become pregnant, and continue for three months following the conception. The supplements folic acid has been shown to aid in protecting from neural tube problems.
